UK sources of unusual chives

The common form of chives are widely available in Garden Centres, Plant Nurseries, Herb Farms or Nurseries They are even available as potted plants from supermarkets in the herb section, but if you use these "kitchen" plants beware they are not "hardened off" and need to be slowly adjusted to the outside weather and temperature, except in very good summer weather.

To find the non-common forms you will probably need to go to Herb Farms or some Ornamental/Bulb sources. The ones I have got plants from are listed below. Not all have a comprehensive website that list all that might be available - I would suggest you email and ask what they currently offer as chive cultivar for sale, or may have it in future years. Beware that garlic chives (Chinese chives) although nice, and edible, are different plants altogether names Allium tuberosum. Likewise blue chives (Siberian chives, Syrian chives) are Allium nutans, not chives. There is a species that looks quite similar to chives, known as oriental chives or Allium maximowiczii, which could easily be confused, with similar coloured flowers but they are larger and the leaves are semi-circular not round like chives.

The sources listed below are those that I have had chives from
